In order to facilitate your success in 10th grade, please be sure to follow these important guidelines:

  • Get to know your counselor. We are here to answer any questions you may have.
  • Pay close attention to the Sophomore Counseling Calendar. If you follow it, you should not miss any important events.
  • Start your college and career exploration using your California Colleges account.
  • Counselors will present valuable information for 10th grade students in February during Course Selection Presentations (for fall classes) including VUSD graduation requirements, college entrance requirements, testing information, and course selection instructions.
  • Check the counseling website and this webpage periodically.
  • Check your grades on Aeries regularly. Progress reports and report cards are not mailed so we are counting on you to be logging in to check your grades weekly.
  • Time management is crucial in high school. You'll have more homework and more activities to balance-stay organized!
  • Keep up with your homework and talk to your teachers when you need extra help. They are happy to schedule a time to meet with you.
  • Get to know your teachers. They want you to be successful in high school.
  • You can create and revise a Personal 4- Year Academic Plan at any time. Make an appointment with your counselor if you want assistance with creating a plan.
  • Listen to the Daily Bulletin in your period 3 class and read the Counseling Newsletter.
  • Play a sport, join a club, try out for a school play, attend all of our school events, and do things you love best! Be an active participant in the Longhorn community.
